Up Close and Personal with My Right Hip
This is one of the shots that I worry may not be proper to post, but I decided that it would help to really be able to see what creates the intensifying pain that is indicative of damage to the hip that requires this kind of major surgery.
If you notice the hip in the x-ray on the right side of the shot there is a nice margin that is actually a soft "cushion" that the leg bone with the big ball on the top rests on and moves against without problem, as most of you do everytime you sit, stand, walk or even roll over in your sleep…it cradles the leg and pelvis interaction and you don’t even realize it is working…enjoy it because I assure when that stops it does not "heal’ and the pain intensifies with each movement and day to the point that you do not have a second without pain. Comparing the picture of the left side clearly shows the "bone on bone" syndrome and remember that there are nerves in the bones that get ground away, not without letting you know they are there and not happy about that by any means…eye popping to put it mildly!!
When the surgeon does this operation he will have lots of fun with all the best woodworking tools you can imagine…yes they are "OR" versions but really no different than you might have on your tool bench at home…just allot more squeeky clean I hope!!
First he will saw off the top of the leg bone, drill down into the remaining bone and hammer a new shiny metal piece that looks about like the part they took away but with a long pin to hold it into the bone…step one gets cemented in and then come step two…
A plate will be fitted into the rounded part of the pelvis that will allow the new "bones" to slip across each other like they used to and that will be screwed into place. So after the saw, drills, hammers and screwdrivers are used by my very talented surgeon I will begin working hard to get back to "normal"—partly bionic—but normal as I can be I hope…will be interesting once i can travel again setting off all the alarms at the airports!!!
So now you’ve had a very personal visit through my x-rays and heard this part of the story…more to follow as the next few days go along…
Tomorrow will be my second blood donation to myself to be held for the surgery…the first went well, I apparently have blood that flows a bit slowly but that’s fine with me as long as it flows…they will have to stick me somewhere else tomorrow though since my right arm is completely bruised and bumpy…me and needles…not the best partners…I have another arm so we should be good to go…more raw spinach, more glasses of water..good iron and hydration keys to making blood flow, slow or otherwise…

my hardest day ever
Thursday evening Hero and I were hit by a cab on Broadway and 49th Street. She almost did not make it. I was at the Animal Medical Center until about 2:00 am.. assisted by a police officer and a lawyer. I could have cared less about the pending legal action against the driver. I was covered in blood, hers and mine. They resuscitated her.. oh god I can barely write this but I need to get it out. The current update is that she has improved dramatically.. one broken rib and internal bruising/trauma to her pelvic area. This vet, a Dr. Eisele, told me this morning "boy can she eat!" when I asked about her appetite. I nearly dropped the phone, ecstatic.. all I can say. The best news I could hear. They may let me visit later today at 3:00pm. I am just going to go over and sit there in a bit, and wait. Yesterday she was overly excited when she heard me there and so it was strongly suggested that I not visit. Three people there told me they had never heard a dog wail like that before. I am just beside myself. I can’t sleep and I can’t eat and I cannot stop reliving that whole scene in the middle of the street. To walk home covered in blood and just her collar in my hands. Joey is in Italy somewhere, not even his agent knows. I would so like to kill him when he finally calls but this news.. Joey loves Hero so much. Hell. This is hell to me. I have to trust and pray that she will be well and home soon. That is what they tell me. I am just cut up and my elbow, whatever. Please pray for my Hero, if you will. Thanks.
